It’s time again for the annual Hotchkiss Swimathon to support Special Olympics Connecticut!
About 32nd Annual Hotchkiss Swimathon
Everything old is new again! The 32nd Annual Hotchkiss Swimathon will take place completely in the glorious, ten-lane Hixon Pool on Sunday, November 1. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and will close at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome and there is no minimum amount of time you must spend at the pool to be counted. We look forward to filling the pool all day.
Since 2022, the Hotchkiss Swimathon has supported the Dream Day Center in Bratislava, Slovakia, a school for Ukrainian refugees forced from their home country by Russia’s attack on Ukraine four and a half years ago. In October, I will travel to Slovakia to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the school’s founding and we continue to make the Dream Day Center a major focal point for our school and our Special Olympics Club.
We have now included five other Founders League schools into our Special Olympics support. Hotchkiss is quite proud of Choate Rosemary Hall, which has established a full Special Olympics Club and program this year.
Hotchkiss has continued to host a Founders League swim meet each winter that includes Special Olympics Connecticut athletes, and we have now sponsored Special Olympics golf, running, and basketball events on campus. It’s hard to attend Hotchkiss and not have some contact with Special Olympics!
This year, I will make a special gift in honor of Roger Nekton, the long-time swimming and water polo coach at Phillips Exeter Academy. Roger passed away this summer at age 88. As my coach and friend, he taught me that all things are possible if we work toward them with persistence and a sense of the joy that he brought to every interaction he ever had with anyone else. I encourage anyone who knew him to join us on November 1 or make a donation in his honor. Roger is deeply missed.
